Balistiq: Mixtape (EXCLUSIVE)

by Uche on Monday, December 24, 2012

Andrew & Ryan Balistiq are a production duo from the East End of London who produced one of this years breakthrough artist Delilah producing her incredible single “Go”. The duo are influenced by all different types of music from reggae, lovers rock, jungle (Andrew’s brother is MC Rage), garage, and grime which growing up in East London they have been blessed to be involved with from the beginning and have worked with grime royalty such as Wiley, JME, Trim, Riko, Badness, Doctor and many more.

I was recently introduced to the duo and they informed me of their forthcoming instrumental mixtape and so they

asked me whether I would like to premiere it on the blog which features eight instrumental bangers. Before you press the download button I sat down with them this afternoon (yep I know it’s Christmas Eve!!!!) to break bread on the mixtape.

Tell me more about the mixtape?
We wanted to release this mixtape because we work with a lot of different artists right at the beginning stages of there career and while waiting for them to release their projects we thought let’s put out an instrumental mixtape. A lot of people don’t know that we came up through the grime scene making a lot of hard hitting instrumentals and so we wanted to show people who might not be familiar with our work that we started out first by building beats.

Who are you currently working with next?
Well we have just co-produced Daley feat Jessie J “Remember Me”, we’ve also worked with Wretch 32, Yasmin, , Tinie Tempah’s Disturbing London record label roster including Dot JR, Sasha Keable and we’ve just finished working with the Voice of Australia 2012 winner Karise Eden her voice is reminiscent of a young Tina Turner.

What advice would you give to young artists & producers who want to be successful in the music business?
Ryan – Have a good attitude is the main thing – keep things minimal, you don’t need the whole world to make music & work with restrictions to try and get the best out of that. Making good music will talk more than sending out demos, emails or a press release, just do your work and let that speak for itself.

Andrew – Persevere; we know so many people who possibly could of got themselves into situations and didn’t because they stopped as they thought they where hitting brick walls all the time but sometimes you need to keep hitting brick walls other wise they ain’t going to fall, you have to keep at it.

Ryan – Everyone has their own roots and everyone blossoms at different times and so you just got to keep at it.

What are your goals for 2013?
Balance – we have done a lot of sessions for artists and for their projects & now it’s time to branch out and do our own thing – under our own name. It will be a balance of things under our name and singles with the artists with whom we have worked with this year.
